SmartNode 10200 media gateway allows adding VoIP capabilities to networks; it ensures the delivery of VoIP service by connecting voice traffic between the PSTN networks based on TDM (Timedivision Multiplexing) and IP networks such as the Internet.

The possibility of providing both conversion and switching between multiple IP and TDM signaling protocols simultaneously is important in order to enable the cost savings and operational flexibility that make service providers expanding their carrier relations and converging networks.
SN10200 Series devices also support the H.248 media gateway control protocol, which allows any H.248 compliant third party softswitch to manage a media gateway.
